The loafing shed is 32 x 18 feet, and 9 feet high. For the loafing sheds, the height is the low side of the building. Nine feet was what we needed for the tractor, but because the building was so wide , a steep pitch was going to make the front roof incredibly tall. We chose a pitch of 2/12, because beyond lowering the price a little, it made the height a more manageable. We have snowy winters, but steel roofs shed snow well enough that it wouldn’t be an issue. Given the vast amount of products that both Menards and Home Depot offer, it can be difficult to directly compare their pricing.

I wish we’d just started down this path from the beginning instead of messing around with various shed plans. Using the Menard’s kit mostly saved us a lot of time – which is something we value. We always have more projects to do than time to do them, so when we can save some time, it’s a win. With this, you can design a project – a garage for example – and select all the different materials and tools that are required. It is a really good online service so you can plan and design your next DIY project and get all the tools and materials you need for it. When it comes to physical store locations, Home Depot is by far the largest out of these two home improvement retailers.
Our Verdict: Menards vs Home Depot – choose Home Depot if you want better physical store access
Like Menards, Home depot delivers nationwide and they have various delivery options. This includes standard delivery, priority delivery (1 – 3 days), expedited delivery, and express delivery . Not every item in Menards is available for this service but it does cover a large number of products.

It helps to calculate the number of materials you need for a project. They also offer other options such as curbside delivery and you can schedule their delivery options for a time that suits you. There is a free delivery option for over one million products on orders over $45.
Finance Options
We had trouble finding plans online that were exactly what we wanted. We purchased some shed plans, but once we went to shop for materials, the cost of the building was astronomical. The plans used really thick dimensional lumber and were extremely impractical (especially considering post-COVID lumber prices).

The written booklet provided was helpful, but a little too generic for me. I would have struggled to figure out what applied to our specific build, and what information I could just ignore. Granted, I have much less building experience than my husband. He relied on prior experience when he didn’t know what the next step was, and I would’ve been stuck. Because the metal colors were a special order, and there was some lumber that wasn’t normally stocked, we were given a 3 week timeframe.
Menards Post Frame Building Kit: Project Review
Menards has 335 stores which are spread out across the Midwestern United States. You’ll find Menards stores from Wyoming to Pennsylvania and from Missouri to North Dakota. Never wonder if it's too early to start seeds, when to transplant those seedlings, or how long your growing season actually lasts. Set your four corners first, check your measurements – especially those diagonals – and then move onto the rest of your posts.
In the end, it is close but the advantage of being relatively nearby to a Home Depot store regardless of where you live is what wins it for us. Their Project Loan finance option allows you to take out a loan of up to $55,000 for all the materials and tools you need for a home improvement project. There are also commercial accounts available with Home Depot. Home Depot offers an app too which is available on both iOS and Android.
Range of products
It is pretty difficult to pick one from Menards and Home Depot because they stock many of the same products. Some people prefer Menards for certain items while they will also head to Home Depot for particular tools or materials. They are a bit limited in physical stores – they are just over 50 in the USA spread over 27 states – but you can get home delivery. If you are taking on a bathroom or living room DIY project, their Scandinavian-inspired flat pack furniture is great. Both Menards and Home Depot feature a wide range of items and materials.

It couldn’t be stashed in the back of a shed, because it’s also our snowplow. Plus, with the ROPS, the tractor is too tall for our existing structures. View your order history, track orders, and create wish lists at any time. All the tools & materials you need can be found at Menards®. We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no additional cost to you.
This isn’t a deep-dive into the “how to” aspect of building one of these structures. There isn’t a lot of information about the Menards post frame building kits floating around the internet. We tried finding reviews before we started our project, but didn’t have a ton of luck.
Then, nail your girt boards, and move up to the headers, rafters, and purlins. This part of the build was difficult because of the height. Our building was 15 feet at the front peak (12 feet from the building, and 3 more due to the not-yet-leveled ground). We used two sets of scaffolding to make it easier – ladders didn’t cut it.
It covers everything from power tools, building materials, furniture, electrical items, and much more. We wouldn’t say that there is much between Menards and Home Depot in general. Menards offer their own app which is available on both iOS and Android devices. It features a cool Augmented Reality function which means you can virtually place items inside your home to see how they look.
